SaaS service vs. regular hosting

Ebasnet, the web content creation and management platform created by our web agency, is not offered as a product but as a service, it is what we call a SaaS service (Software as a Service).

The experience accumulated by Dispròmedia after years developing and maintaining all kinds of web solutions (whether corporate sites or e-commerce through open source market standards), made us create our own web content management system: Ebasnet.

Why was Ebasnet born?

Custom design and programming have a very high cost of creation and implementation, both for the client and for the developer himself. In addition, the maintenance and updating of this type of solutions cannot be done in a centralized way and, therefore, the maintenance cost of each project also increases a lot.

For this same reason, most of these solutions are becoming obsolete and, in the short or medium term, pose a potential security risk, since they lose functionality and are difficult, or practically impossible, to recover in the event of a computer attack.

Farewell to open source standards

Given this situation, at Dispromèdia we decided not to continue working with open-source standards such as WordPress (one of the most used web content management systems worldwide, mostly used in corporate websites) or Prestashop (used for the creation of e-commerce).

In addition, the weaknesses of both solutions meant continuous problems and incidents. The reason? Because they are open source market standards, their structure, and organization in terms of folders, files, and databases is public and, therefore, thoroughly studied by hackers to find out where they are located. Therefore, if we add to the vulnerabilities of these standard open source solutions a lack of maintenance due to their high cost, the web pages or online stores developed with these programs are even more exposed to possible attacks.

Another disadvantage of open source standards is that third parties (web development companies) add different modules or connectors (free or not) to improve the performance of our website or online store and often fail to maintain them. So they become another gateway for attackers.

Well, open source standards have always worked for me...

Before discovering Ebasnet, some users or customers claimed that "for me open source standards are enough and have never given me any problems..."

It is possible to have a WordPress or a Prestashop for some time (between two and five years) up to date and without incidents. Even so, we can attest that they occur and not a little. We have been able to verify, time after time, how companies, public entities or associations saw with impotence how their websites made with WordPress or other standard open source managers, fell (stopped working) or were pirated (going on to promote products or content that had nothing to do with them).

It is at this moment that they come to us in search of solutions. And these solutions are provided by Ebasnet's SaaS system.

Ebasnet SaaS, much more than standard hosting

Precisely because we control our server infrastructure (set of virtualized servers in our provider's datacenter but configured and managed by us) and it is not a standard hosting, we have created a balanced structure with multiple enhancements, such as CDN, which conventional hosting or open source solutions do not include by default.

A global quota

The EBASNET SaaS fee includes hosting, the content manager / administrator (back office), security updates, constant improvements, regular backups and SSL certificate that allows encrypted and secure communication between users and websites / e-commerce, as well as basic technical support / after-sales service. It is a global fee.

Be clear about what you are signing up for. Often, web design or hosting companies that use open source standards will tell you that their hosting fees are cheaper than our SaaS solution. This is because those fees do not include maintenance, upgrades and after-sales service, so they compare their prices to only a small portion of what our SaaS fee offers.
